Laser Gun Novelty Alarm Clock

alarm clocks

I am not a fan of most of those annoying alarm clocks that make you wake up and perform an action, in order to turn the buzzer off. I just cant see myself paying to wake up at 5 AM and solve a puzzle, or catch a helicopter, or finish a math problem, while some machine makes loud obnoxious noises in my hear.

However when I am woken up at 5 AM by a loud annoying machine, one thing I do want to do, is kill! And that is what this clock allows me to do. Thats because when this clock goes off, the only way to silence it is with a well aimed shot from a laser rifle.

While this does sound good in theory, the biggest problem I can for see, is what happens if you lose the gun? Does the alarm clock buzz forever? Do you have to go out and buy a real gun to silence it?

Anyways we found this one at Coolest Gadgets

And it is available for purchase at Latest Buy

Number 6 - Infinite Complexities

This clock is a triumph of precision. Gears and parts all move and churn and turn in an endlessly elegant choreography which was conceived, designed, and actually embedded by hand into individual pieces of natural hardwood.

The Nautilus - An Insanely Intricate Timepiece

This is another insane wall clock found on Lisa Boyer’s site, and designed by Adrian Iredale. It features dozens of gears and pendulums, all hand carved, moving in exquisite precision around, against, and with one another, beating 90 times per minute in an elegant waltz of masterful design. The clock, which is a triumph of human creation, was designed with a gentle lilting chime, which is meant to be more of an afterthought, and less of an exclamation on each hour.

As always, the clocks found on Lisa Boyers site are not for sale, oh no you can’t just buy one. However, if you do fall in love, you are more than welcome to purchase the plans and struggle your way through the impossible complexity of building it yourself.

80’s Rubik’s Cube Desk Clock

This little novelty alarm clock is a throwback to a simpler time, a kinder time, a more peaceful time.

Well not really, its actually a throwback to the eighties. If you are nostalgic for the days of coke blowing wall street big cats, grungy street gangs battling it out over break dancing contests and the constant whine of heavy metal, than this clock is for you.

The design is simple and functional. All you have to do is spin the top of the Rubiks cute to alternate between time, date, and alarm clock functions.

Time Inverted Turns The Clock on Its Head

This clock pretty much turns the concept of the clock upside down. As you can see, in this unique design, the face itself turns, giving the hands a vacation from their constant tick tick.

Simplicity? WTF?

This clock is called simplicity, and the artist, Lisa Boyer, claims it only took her one day to make it.

I would like to open up her head and meet the team of geniuses that must be living in there, because when I look at this clock, I go cross eyed and I start to get a headache. How could anyone concieve, develop, and actually build something as complex as this in just a single day? An amazing triumph of human creativity

A Shield Wall Clock For Decorative Battlefield Needs

The designers of this clock claim that it resembles a viking shield. I’ve seen viking shields, and they didn’t have any of these funky colors, they were generally hardwood, unpainted, occasionally with steal straps or spikes. However this clock does have a shield like shape, with what I would call more of an African tribal type of design, or possibly some type of European Infantry piece. At 24″ in length, this would be a rather imposing piece of equipment on a battlefield.

This was found on Maverick creations and it is available in your choice of custom colors, all you have to do is contact the manufacturers and ask.

Worlds Biggest Alarm Clock

This is a YouTube video of some kids entry to the “World’s Largest” contest, for some local radio station. What he basically does is rigs his bed to start bucking up and down whenever the alarm goes off.

After its over he looks like he realizes what a stupid idea that was.

This is an interesting alarm clock, offered by Vat 19, that is basically a replica of a traditional firehouse bell. The video gets into a lot of nonsense but the product is actually an intriguing novelty

Wheel of Time - Modern Wooden Clock Design

This is another design from Maverick Creations, which combines the simple dignity of stained hardwood with a sleek and stylish modern design.

This clock kind of looks like a wagon wheel without the wheel part. I could see it being used in a country cabin, or some other rustic, lodge setting. It also kind of resembles a child’s rendition of the sun.

Digital T-Shirt Watch / Clock

This is a rather strange clock / watch / fashion statement. It is powered by 4 AAA batteries which are hidden in a compartment in the shirt, and the face of the clock is comprised of flashing LED numbers.

Rather impractical, apparently the batteries only last from 12-36 hours depending on which flashing mode they are placed on. Also, the batteries don’t work if you leave them in during washing.

Another problem with the shirt is that it is hand wash only, so you have to actually sit down and get nasty with the grime every time you wear it.

The T-Shirt is for sale at Latest Buy and they had this to say about it

“Up for a bit of mischief? Set the clock an hour ahead (or behind) and jump on a bus or train – then watch your fellow commuters work themselves into a lather as they try to figure out whether daylight savings has started. It also makes a great gift for those among us who suffer from terminal lateness.”

Hard Drive Clock

This is a clock, that is somehow built from an old hard drive. There wasn’t much information about this clock, as the instruction page where it was found is in German http://www.heise.de/ct/machflott/projekte/55956

However there is a manufacturer of a similar, albeit less sophisticated clock at http://www.srkconsulting.com/hddclock.phtml

Sleeptracker Wrist Alarm Clock

This is an alarm clock that I do not believe works.

According to the company, you wear a wristband or a watch which is connected electronically to the alarm clock itself. The wrist piece is supposed to monitor your internal body signals and calculate the optimal time to wake you.

There is a 30 minute window you can also set on the piece, so that it makes sure you do not sleep past when you have to wake up.

Now they have an endorsement page thats about a mile long, and it looks like they are endorsed by people like Dr. Phil, and organizations like Time Life. This is because they need those endorsement, because the product sounds like complete nonsense.

The technology is a series of sensors that are supposed to monitor your body as it apsses through the 4 phases of sleep. It looks for moments in between REM and the other stages, when you are “almost awake”, and it uses those brief moments as the optimal time to wake you up.

What it sounds like to me is a heart monitor with a fancy program that waits for your heart rate to increase, and then it finishes the job of waking you up.

Does it work? Maybe a little, but considering how complex the human body is, I can’t imagine it being terribly accurate.

Whats more, you can;t even buy this clock. The designer, Lisa Boyer doesnt even sell the clocks themselves, all she sells are the plans, so you can go out and make yourself crazy trying to replicate this thing.
